We are a small friendly day nursery; the setting is set out on one level with disabled access to all areas. The setting has 2 disabled parking spaces directly outside the nursery entrance. Our toilet facilities are suitable for wheelchair use. The setting has 2 gardens one of them being a natural garden where we are able to grow fruit, vegetables and herbs providing sensory experiences. Both gardens are fully accessible.

We use visual timetables and use visual props in our daily routine. The staff also use visual props to support behaviour and children are encouraged to help in making their own rooms normal behaviour book, they are encourage to speak about feelings and how they are treated by others, they are also encouraged to draw pictures in this book. Within the pre-school room we support the learning of phonics through the use of visual phonics.

We are a fully inclusive setting with experience in SEND, we have a trained and experienced SENCo (special needs coordinator) who has worked with children with many different types of SEND. Our SENCo has achieved an accredited Level 3 in SEND.  We also have staff who support children with additional needs within their own family, and understand the fears and support some parents may need. We work closely with parents and carers and value their input and support.

 Parents and specialist teachers, or medical professionals are invited into the setting to work alongside the SENCo to write their child’s one page document, and the paths through a graduated response and care-plan if required.
 
The settings SENCo works closely with our Area SENCo, outside agencies and specialist teachers to provide continuous support. They are available to support us and provide additional resources to support children’s individual needs.

Members of staff are trained to work with children who have radio aid systems in place.

The setting has worked as a team to support SENDS working to develop knowledge and understanding in the Early language development programs, Speech and Language, Autism and behaviour and social development. The setting also has a member of staff who has completed a diploma level 3 with distinction in Special Needs within Early Years and child Psychology. The setting has recently achieved their Bronze Award in Autism Awareness meaning all staff have a thorough understanding of Autism and how to support children in their care.

The setting also has experience of working with children with allergies and staff have participated in relevant training for administration of epi-pens.

The setting insists on ALL members of staff being paediatric first aid trained and completing refresher courses.

All staff are DBS certificated and are trained to at least level 2 in safeguarding, the setting also has 2 designated safeguarding officers who have undergone relevant training to a level 3.

The setting has 2 ENCO’s (equality officers) and an ENCO committee; equality monitoring and impact questionnaires are carried out during every staff meeting.

We are committed to providing support  by following the principles of Early support and the Code of Practice 2014.
